1. On 2/2/25 at 1:44 pm, the air temperature was only 34 degrees F. The 1800 gallon pond was at 42 degrees F, and the 153 gallon pond was at 43 degrees F. I did not get in the big pond. I put in additives and water and removed a few leaves.
2. On 2/9/25 at 2:44 pm, the air temperature was 43 degrees F. It wouldn't have been too bad save for the wind which would blow through my clothes and suck the heat out of me. I wore longjohns as I can't work in the pond with a coat on. The 1800 gallon pond was at 45 degrees F, and the 153 gallon pond was at 44 degrees F. I got in the big pond to pull out the filter floss and squirted it off. There was a small pickerel frog in the bottom that I put in the pond. I put in additives and water to the 1800 and 153 gallon ponds.
3. On 2/11/25, we got an inch of snow. By dawn 2/12/25, there was 3.5 inches total. Half of it had melted by the time I got home from work.
4. On 2/16/25, at 1:29 pm, the air temperature was 52 degrees F but it was very windy. The 1800 gallon pond was at 43 degrees F, and the 153 gallon pond was at 44 degrees F. It had been pouring rain so none of the ponds needed water. All I did was put in some additives and try to pick up some leaves.
5. I did pond chores on 2/23/25 at 1:32 pm. The air temperature was 47 degrees F, and it was breezy but it felt warm compared to lately! The 1800 gallon pond was at 41 degrees F, and the 153 gallon pond was at 44 degrees F. I got in the big pond to pull out the filter floss around the main pump. It was pretty dirty. I remove two dead pickerel frogs, both about two inches long. That is six dead pickerel frogs so far this year. I do not know why they are so prone to dying. I changed the bag of oyster shell in the biofilter. I put in additives and water.
6. It was near 60 degrees F on 2/24/25 and 2/25/25. I gave the fish their first food of the year, some Cheerios on 2/25/25 around 5:30 pm. The water was still pretty cold but they were very active. I think they even started spawning. Ut oh! When that happens, things get really dirty since they stir things up. We went from winter to summer with no spring! No matter, by Sunday, it will be freezing again which is the only day I can work at home outside.
