My Royal Gramma
Royal Gramma Photos and Video
I wish I had time to write about the royal gramma basslet. Instead, I will justtell you about mine.
On 7/21/25, I combined my 6 and 12 gallon nano reefs that I started in 2008 into my 20 gallon tank that was previously for freshwater. I did some research on what fish I could potentially add with Nemo. She got a boyfried, Nuri, on 8/16/25, and they love each other. I decided to quarantine a royal gramma basslet. I got Princess Diana on 8/18/25. When moving her to quarantine, she popped out and bounced on the counter. Due to that and possibly damage when they netted her, she went downhill fast. I treated her with erythromycin starting on 8/19/25 but she, alas, died on 8/23/25.
I had to wait for another day off for the long drive to try again which was a pain because I had to keep the extra tank running. I got the second Princess Diana on 10/20/25. I also got a yellow watchman goby. They did great at first. Then, the goby, King Charles, developed a small dot on his mouth which blossomed into a full blown, "my-face-is-falling-off" infection! In went the erythromycin but King Charles died the next morning, on 11/1/25. I did a ~40% water change the next day and resumed the erythromycin for Diana even though she showed no symptoms. As of typing this (11/6/25), she seems perfectly fine. She has put on weight as she arrived underweight. I will likely treat her prophylactically with General Cure next week just in case and release her to the 20 gallon (in a plastic breeding box at first to see what Nemo and Nuri think of her) on 11/15/25 if all goes well.
Diana was released from the breeding box on 11/15/25. She hid at first but the clown fish did not bother her. By 12/18/25, she and Nuri are buddies. Nemo is off in her own world. The three fish get along wonderfully!
None as of yet.
