This page is with regards to my "new" (as in renovated) 50 gallon aquarium from 4/7/2025 to the present. For information about the tank from 2001 until 4/7/2025, see my 50 gallon tank page.

50 Gallon Tank Photos and Videos

I have taken a few photos since I renovated the tank on 4/7/2025 but have yet to process any of them because it is time consuming, and my web site is near maximum allowed byte usage.

50 Gallon Tank Fish

I renovated the 50 gallon aquarium on 4/7/25. All the rosy barbs had died off, and it was time to downsize. Only the two clown plecos remained in the 50 gallon. They had been moved from my 65 gallon aquarium on 2/19/22.

I took everything out of both the 20 and 50 gallon aquariums. I threw out most of the java moss and cleaned things very well. I drip acclimated the fish back in.

I moved all the fish from the 20 gallon aquarium to the 50 gallon aquarium. There were 11 panda cories. They had all been born in the 20 gallon tank and were getting old with cataracts for example. Details of their history can be found on the panda cory and 20 gallon tank pages.

I used the 20 gallon to quarantine 26 fish of 3 species for the 50 gallon. Only 7 made it out alive. Details can be found on the pages for those species.

Current 27 fish in the 50 gallon tank:

Record of 4 fish losses by date after 4/7/25:

50 Gallon Tank Other Animals

Some small ramshorn snails and Malaysian trumpet snails came from the 20 gallon during the renovation on 4/7/25. The snails never seemed to be a problem but are now eating more of my plants than I would like.

50 Gallon Tank Plants

Some plants from both the 20 and 50 gallon tanks were put back into the renovated 50 gallon aquarium. I have no idea what the species are at this point but my best informatino follow.

From the 20 gallon tank, I moved java fern, floating fern, and duckweed as well as a few small maybe Anubias plants. I used two styrofoam floating hoops (one square, one round) to hold the floating fern and duckweed in mostly two areas.

From the old 50 gallon, there was Anubias barteri, crypts, java moss, and a huge plant that is also Anubias I think.

50 Gallon Tank Equipment

Heater - On 12/12/20, I put in a new Aqueon Pro 150 W heater.
